Overview of the Pacific Crest Trail in
California
The trail
starts out as a desert trail at the California/Mexican border.
The
Pacific Crest
Treat
leaves the
desert and enters the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. By this time the
trail is in the
High Sierra
Nevada Mountains,
and treks through the wildernesses in
Sierra National Forest
before exploring the remote glories of eastern
Yosemite National Park.
After leaving Yosemite, the trail passes through another string of national
forests and
travels around
Lake
Tahoe. It climbs down and out of the
Sierra Nevada
Mountain Range
and
climbs into the
Cascade
Mountain Range
at
Lassen National Forest before leading
into
Lassen Volcanic National Park.
