What is your next adventure?
This is a common question asked by friends and family. Well here it is, the Trans Canada Trail.
Why the Trans Canada Trail (TCT)?
The lure of the trail is its history, the small towns it goes through, the Kettle Valley Railway (KVR) section and the Canadian Rockies.
The other lure is I have spent so much time exploring other places that it was time to explore my own backyard. I have hiked the West Coast Trail, Juan de Fuca Trail, cycled section on the KVR and camped here and there in British Columbia (BC) but I have yet to have a long distance adventure, until now.
Where does the Trans Canada Trail go in BC?
The trail goes through Victoria, Langford, Shawnigan Lake, Ladysmith, Vancouver, Burnaby, Port Moody, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, Mission, Abbotsford, Cultus Lake, Chilliwack, Hope, Tulameen, Princeton, Summerland, Penticton, Beaverdell, Rock Creek, Mideway, Greenwood, Grand Forks, Christina Lake, Rossland, Trail, Creston, Elko, Fernie, Sparwood and Elk Pass.
When to do you plan to go?
I am heading off in July 2006 from Calgary, Alberta to Victoria, BC.
Who am I going with?
No one. Just myself, the breezer and my stuff.
Is it safe?
Yes. The trail travels through a number of towns every day. The size of the towns vary but you are never more than a few kilometers from help.
The hazards on the trail are not different than hiking or camping; bears, mosquitoes, rain, snow, cold and heat.
