HANDS-ON: Trigger Point

for Shoulder & Migraine Issues

Course Description:

 

This workshop is designed for bodyworkers and other interested health professionals, who want some “concentrated” instruction on locating and treating myofascial trigger points (TrPs).

 

The New Westminster workshop will mainly deal with shoulder issues and we will be locating and treating TrPs in the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, teres major, latissimus dorsi, triceps, coracobrachialis, subscapularis, serratus anterior, serratus posterior superior, subclavius, trapezius, levator scapulae, rhomboids, deltoids, scalenes, pectoralis major/minor.

 

As well, we will locate and discuss the suboccipitals, sternocleidomastoids and their role in headaches and migraines.

Course Objectives:

 

What will be covered in this workshop:

 

- Detailed palpation techniques of muscles for trigger points, treatment techniques, post-treatment protocol, latent / active TrPs, contraindications.

- How TrPs play a major role in “Frozen Shoulder”, shoulder joint pain and ROM issues.

- The muscles that play a causal role in headache and migraine - and how to deactivate their trigger points.

- How exercise affects trigger points in the rotator cuff muscles.

- How TrPs always affect muscle strength and performance and why muscle performance always improves when trigger points are removed.

- How stress, medications, over-use, trauma and skeletal abnormalities affect TrPs.

- The effects of heat / ice on TrPs.

 

We'll also look at some common sport / athlete problems, including:

 

-          Headache and Migraine

-          Frozen Shoulder

-          Arm Pain, including: Tennis Elbow and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

-          Upper back pain

-          Lower back pain

-          Buttocks and Groin issues

-          Hip Flexor and Hamstring concerns

-          Knee problems

-          Plantar Fasciitis, Shin Splints, Heel Spurs

-          Also, workshop participants' personal myofascial pain problem(s) will be examined, if requested (this will be part of the hands-on section)

 

Prerequisite:

 

Only people who have previously attended an “Understanding Trigger Points to Overcome Pain”, presented by William Huhn, may attend this New Westminster workshop.

Prerequisites:

 

None required. This workshop is open to anyone interested in myofascial trigger points; however, some knowledge of muscle anatomy and physiology is beneficial.

 

Please Note:

 

- Due to the physical nature of this workshop, all attendees will be required to sign a liability waiver prior to commencing class. As well, anyone with conditions that may be exacerbated by physical contact (e.g. fibromyalgia) should contact William Huhn directly, at 250 741.1263, prior to registration.

 

- All attendees should dress appropriately for a massage/bodywork class (portions of the upper body, may be exposed during class). Bring along a yoga mat if possible.

 

- Any registrants from the lower mainland, who have massage tables they could bring to class - it would be greatly appreciated.

 

- Course fee includes comprehensive and detailed course manual.

About the Presenter:

 

William N. Huhn

 

Raised on Canada’s beautiful west coast, in Vancouver and surrounding areas - William moved in 1989, to the less hectic pace of Nanaimo, where he and his family appreciatively call home.

 

Training and working for years as a Paramedic with BC Ambulance and also in Manitoba, as an EMT (Paramedic) and hospital ER Assistant - he now works in a much calmer (somewhat anti-adrenaline) setting, as owner and operator of William Huhn Trigger Point Technique.

 

A self-confessed Trigger Point apostle since 2002, William has committed over 2000 private-study hours, within this extensive modality as well as other related courses/workshops that include Trigger Point, Bowen Technique, Fitness Theory and Exercise Physiology.  He has developed a Trigger Point workshop, that is currently the only one of it’s kind in Canada; designed for Personal Trainers, Fitness Leaders, Yoga Instructors, et al., and is approved by BCRPA for C.E. Credits.

 

William sees clients daily at his offices in Nanaimo and is currently working on other Trigger Point specialty workshops for Fitness Leaders (C.E.C.’s) and also Trigger Point seminars for the general public.

 

Since 2004, his Trigger Point technique has successfully treated and improved the quality of life for hundreds of clients with soft-tissue pain as well as other myofascial based issues.
