On September 15, 2006 the Body
Worlds 3 exhibition opened at Science World in Tickets can either be purchased at the door or in advance
and picked up in the lobby. Once you
have your ticket, you are given a time for your turn to enter the
exhibit. Science World thus maintains a constant flow of people through
the exhibit to prevent overcrowding. Before you enter the exhibit, a
sign displays the following caution for
sensitive viewers: eyes and genitals remain; a section of the
exhibition highlights prenatal development, and includes embryos and fetuses. Audio guides are available at a cost of $5.00 CAD, with
the option of selecting the 2 hour advance guide or the 1.5 hour general
guide. I would recommend the advance audio guide. While there are
description cards at most of the displays, the guide tells the full story of
the display. When you enter the exhibit, it becomes clear
that you are in a one-of-a-kind anatomy and physiology lesson with areas
dedicated to the skeletal system, nervous system, respiratory system, and
cardiovascular system with additional information on fetal development and
how muscles and joints work together during athletic performance. The exhibits plainly shows the effects of lifestyle choices on
health; for example, the actual deteriorated lungs of a smoker, an aorta with arteriosclerosis,
a stomach ulcer and a liver with cirrhosis are displayed. The exhibit
literally takes you inside the common conditions fitness and
rehabilitation professionals see every day, including osteoporosis,
osteoarthritis, lung cancer, emphysema, heart attack, stroke and arthritic
hip replacement. I would highly recommend making the time to see Body
Worlds 3, which will be at Science World in Fitness & Rehabilitation Facts from Body Worlds
