About the Presenter:

Jody Kennett, SFU HFC, BCRPA Personal Trainer, ACE Clinical Exercise Specialist, 10 years experience leading Joint Replacement Classes

The beginning of my career as a fitness professional began at SFU when in pursuit of my Bachelor of Education, I was able to explore my passion and interest in Kinesiology.  With my fascination in human movement ignited, I went on to complete the Health and Fitness Certificate at SFU and later became certified as both a BCRPA Personal Trainer and ACE Clinical Exercise Specialist.

For nearly 10 years, I have been accumulating a wealth of knowledge and experience working full time as a personal trainer with clients individually and on a group basis that range in age from 11-93.   I have instructed community programs in Health Heart, Joint Replacement, Girl Power, Youth Weight Training, and Women on Weights.  In addition, recently, I took the initiative to create a post stroke recovery program for the advanced or younger stroke survivor.  After collaboration with the neuro physiotherapy team at Lions Gate Hospital, we now operate a group class which acts as a progressive next step for post stroke survivors.

Early on in my personal training career, I became identified as the trainer with the technical skills, personal attributes, and passion best suited for challenging clients with physical disabilities, limitations, and pain.  These exact clients have become my mission for propelling forward on my own path in personal training.  Some of the niche groups I specialize with and enjoy working with the most include Joint Replacement, Parkinson’s, Back Pain, Stroke survivors, youth, and runners.

Along my 14 year journey in the fitness industry I have experienced various roles, but none as rewarding as being a post rehab exercise specialist.  For a decade now, it has been a great pleasure to have been immersed in the unique niche of joint replacement exercise leadership instruction.  I was initially introduced to Joint Replacement exercise group classes at the District of West Vancouver where they were just beginning a community based class in collaboration with and as a graduation step from Lions Gate Hospital.  It began with one class twice a week with a half dozen participants and now it has expanded to 6 classes of 12 participants with the option of 2 or 3 days a week, an advanced level 2 class, and open to pre and post operation clients.
