As a teenager she was an avid competitive swimmer and diver. An accident while practicing high jump at the age of twelve, injured her back. This injury, was, unfortunately missed on the x-rays. Finally further x-rays at the age of seventeen led to the discovery of a congenital back abnormality which required major back surgery and three months lying in a body cast from her neck to her knees. After the body cast was removed, Jenny had to learn to walk again wearing an iron brace for another three months. At this early age she learned to conquer chronic pain and the frustration of not being believed that anything was wrong. During this time Jenny developed tools and techniques to help regain her mobility which she was able to draw upon later in life.
At the age of 19 she immigrated to Canada. Over many years she developed her skills and became a fitness instructor. In 1991, Jenny was forced to give up this career as she was suffering from a "mystery" illness. The following year she was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Drawing from her earlier experiences during her back surgery and her fitness training she was able to overcome the effects of this new illness.
Since 1993, she has developed a unique program to help those living with FM. She gives lectures about Fibromyalgia to people living with FM and their families; and also conduct workshops for kinesiologists, personal trainers, physiotherapists, fitness instructors and other health professionals. Jenny also conducts weekly exercise classes in Greater Victoria, focusing on FM and counsels clients on strategies to help them find the best WAY OF LIFE. Qualifications BCRPA Certified: Jenny is currently writing a handbook about Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue. |
