Functional Fitness for the Parkinson’s Client with Jody Kennett

Workshop Description:

 

The participant of this session will gain a full understanding of Parkinson’s disease and how it affects a client’s physical ability and their daily physical struggles.  You will learn how  to develop a comprehensive exercise program that will target their specific areas of difficulty.  The knowledge and understanding gained in this session will help the trainer implement the appropriate exercise selection for their Parkinson’s client assisting them to live with more independence, confidence, and empowerment. 

 

Learning Objectives:

 

1)       What is Parkinson’s Disease (history, symptoms, progression…)

2)       Recent Research Findings for Parkinson’s & Exercise Reviewed

3)       How the body and physical capabilities change for someone with Parkinson’s disease

4)       How exercise can help our Parkinson’s client

5)       Exercise Selection, Guidelines and Complete Exercise Program Ideas

6)       Case Scenarios

7)       Resources

 

Session Time Line:

 

- 30 minutes on History, Theory, and Research

- 60 minutes Exercise Selection, Guidelines, Program Ideas

- 20 minutes Case Scenarios

- 10 minutes Discussion / Q & A and Resources

About the Presenter:

 

Jody Kennett, SFU HFC, BCRPA Personal Trainer, ACE Clinical Exercise Specialist

 

 Jody has been in the fitness industry for 14 years as a personal trainer and lead instructor for group programs including Joint Replacement, Healthy Heart, Girl Power, Post Stroke Rehabilitation, and Women on Weights.  Her most rewarding role has been being a post rehab exercise specialist.  The emphasis of Jody’s personal training expertise has been working with clients pre and post operation joint replacement, back care, and a personal interest in Parkinson’s Disease.  She has worked long term with both young and older Parkinson’s clients and seen first hand the benefits and important role exercise plays in enhancing their life.  Jody is owner of Leap Fit Training Professionals where her passion is being a post rehabilitation specialist, creating programs for teenage girls, and being a Wellness coach.
