Cycling Cuba

The Adventure

Every day I dream of new places to visit.  Ideas are always passing through my mind of new and exciting places to visit.  One day someone had mentioned the idea of visiting Cuba.  The idea intrigued me, so I began to do some research.  The more and more I research, the more I wanted to go.  Cuba had a unique culture, beautiful beach, endless history, Fidel Castro, great coffee, lots of sun, great music, sinful pleasures, beautiful towns, and so much more.  I had to go.

After hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, I was looking for a new adventure.  I had backpacked around South America, hiked across the United States of American and now was wondering how a cycling trip would be.  I researched to see if it was possible combine cycling and Cuba.  I came across a few books and websites.  It sounded like a great way to see the country.  The idea was set.

After a number of months of saving and negotiating with work to get them time off.  My girlfriend, Karlene, and I headed to Cuba with our bikes in April 2004.

If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined,

he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. - Thoreau, Henry David
